Nick Papatheodorakos

Chair - External Relations

Maître Nick Papatheodorakos brings to our team a strong balance of legal knowledge, industrial relations experience and invaluable transferable skills. A practicing lawyer specializing in employment and industrial relations law, Nick has helped defend teachers’ rights at the hiring table, the labour management table, at arbitration hearings and at the Tribunal administratif du travail.

Engaged in labour rights for almost 10 years, Nick has expanded his knowledge and experience in industrial relations to include managing labour management issues, grievance procedures and collective bargaining negotiations.  With this body of knowledge, experience, skillsets, and Nick’s hard work as External Relations Chair, he has reshaped the reach of CUPFA and its network of sister unions.

In the last six years, Nick has been able to further develop a strong network of relationships with every greater Montreal university sister union, made significant inroads with sister unions across Quebec, has direct relations with key representatives of FNEEQ and successfully helped CUPFA gain membership in the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT). In addition, Nick was also appointed as a member of the Governance Committee, the Chair of the Contract Academic Staff Committee and one of the Executives for CAUT, making it possible to have a significant presence and contribution for CUPFA on all national issues facing part-time teachers. Nick has a BA in Poli-Sci from McGill, an MA in History from Concordia and a Law degree from University of Montreal. He has been teaching in both the Political Science and Management departments at Concordia for the past
12 years, teaching at McGill University since 2006 and is a published author of legal textbooks used across Quebec.
