June Riley

Treasurer (ACCLAIMED)

Since her first election to the position of Treasurer in March 2011, June Riley has brought a high level of professionalism to that function.  During her tenure, the value of our strike fund has risen from
$1.25 million to just over $3 million, in collaboration with the investment management team at Raymond James.  The strike fund’s value gives our membership impressive clout at the bargaining table.  June has also been an invaluable member of CUPFA’s negotiating team for the last three collective agreements, each bringing our members greater access to jobs and benefits.

Because of her initiative, CUPFA members now have annual orientations on how the Pension Plan for Employees of Concordia University applies to part-time faculty.  This has provided opportunities for members to have questions answered on a wide range of financial planning matters.  These orientations have included guest speakers whenever new services, benefits or rules about benefits have come up.  After bringing her input to the employer’s Pension Sustainability Forum during the years leading up to the 2018 changes in the pension plan, June was elected to represent all part-time faculty, including CUCEPTFU, TRAC, CARE, as well as CUPFA, on the University’s Pension and Benefits Committees.  As a result, she can now provide input on behalf of our members to these bodies.  This work is particularly vital now that the employer is reviewing and considering changes to the comprehensive health plan.

June has also greatly improved the managerial functioning of the CUPFA executive.  From instituting professional payroll services for our staff, streamlining our relationship with our bankers, to overhauling our insurance, June’s expertise has helped our executive operate more efficiently.

A part-time faculty member, June Riley has over 25 years of experience teaching in the Departments of Finance and Economics. Her commitment to students and her fellow faculty members extends beyond her pedagogical contributions. In addition to being a  member of the University’s Pension and Benefits committees, June has served on several university committees related to curriculum, course evaluations, student retention, teaching and learning issues, as well as still serving on the department hiring committees in the departments of Finance and Economics.

Prior to her employment at Concordia, June Riley worked as a financial economist and then as a senior economist in the investment banking industry in Toronto. This professional experience in the financial world adds an impressive breadth of real-world experience to her many talents that make her an ideal Treasurer for CUPFA.
